The Story of Tinkerbell

High school. Dad had just retired from the Navy, and we moved to a Midwestern state. I made friends with a girl who lived on a farm and went out on weekends. Her cow was named Tinkerbell, and I was sure Tinkerbell was a pet.

One day I saw her in the cornfield. Her dad never allowed that, so I asked if we should get her out. "She's there to fatten up," my friend said. Winter's coming, I thought.

A couple of weeks later my family was at the farm for dinner. We were eating chili. I asked about Tinkerbell — I hadn't seen her and wondered if she was okay. My friend's sister said she was in the chili.

It was a shock. I'd never been on a farm before, and I'd never even been to a farm stand. That's the story behind this video.
